Colorado's 4th congressional district is the only real pickup opportunity for the Democrat's US House delegation in Colorado. As you may know Angie Paccione dropped out of the race, in order to take a fantasitic job. Rep. Diana DeGette (CO-01) immediately endorsed Betsy Markey.
I got a call from Betsy last night as she was driving home from the airport (she'd just been in DC). The DCCC and a certain DC-based organization have pledged significant funds, if Betsy can raise another $14,000 by tomorrow night.
This is a call for any donation you can contribute to help her reach the goal. The receipt of the pledged amount would give her the buzz to help raise the kind of funds needed to take on Marilyn Musgrave.
As they say at Emily's List - Early Money Is Like Yeast (i.e. it grows). Your donation will have far greater impact now, than later in the election cycle. If you contribute now, you will be taking a big step towards defeating Musgrave and making Colorado that much bluer.
You can contribute via ActBlue.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

About Betsy
For the past 2 1/2 years, Betsy Markey served as Regional Director for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar for northern and eastern Colorado, where she worked closely with businesses, agricultural groups, elected leaders and individual constituents to represent their interests. She is also former Chair of the Larimer County Democrats. As a successful businesswoman, Betsy founded Syscom Services, an Internet consulting and web site development firm, and Huckleberry's, a successful ice cream shop in Old Town Fort Collins. Betsy holds a BS in Political Science from the University of Florida and a Masters degree in Public Administration, with an emphasis on public finance, from American University. She was a high-ranking official in the U.S. State Department, and traveled throughout the world as a computer security specialist. Betsy has been married for 23 years and has three children.
Betsy worked for Sen. Salazar, but she's no clone. in fact, I believe her to be quite progressive. I've hosted Betsy at my home and at a neighborhood Meet & Greet, with a number of Democrats (One a 17 year director of ACLU and another a 5 term state house / 4 term state senate member). They asked some very direct questions, examining her views on civil rights / liberties, GLBT issues, immigration, and whether she had any skeletons in her closet (Angie had bankruptcies which probably cost her the 2006 race). Betsy handled the questions in a thoughtful and sincere manner and impressed everyone.
I believe that Betsy taking the job as Ken Salazar's Northern and Eastern Regional director for the past 2 1/2 years, was a very astute move. The position allowed Betsy to get to know the people of CO-04 and their issues. Invaluable training for their next congresswoman.
BTW, While I'm supporting Betsy, I'm not in any way a part of her organization. I just really want to beat Musgrave and strongly believe that Betsy is the one to do it.
