I've got to hand it to Hillary's campaign staff. They've come up with some great ideas on how to encourage people to contribute to her campaign in the lead-up to the end of the reporting period. As you might recall, they invited the one million'th contributor to spend the day campaigning with Hillary & Bill, and last month they invited a supporter over for lunch.
(Sadly, I didn't get picked for either honor)
With the reporting deadline approaching, they came up with a new incentive - Bill will invite three of us over to watch a debate and have a chat (see my recent diary HERE), and each person will get to bring a friend. And like last time, they've sweetened the deal.
Make the jump to find out who'll be joining the party...
I got an email from Bill last week with the subject line of You, Me, TV & a Bowl of Chips. Sure got my attention and I posted the information here in the above noted diary. And while I was in New York Hillary sent out a note requesting that we make sure Bill skips the chips, and nibbles on carrots instead. (She must have been reading my mind because I told a friend that she'd probably rather Bill have unbuttered, unsalted popcorn).
Today I got the following email...
Hillary once told me that she reads my novels for relaxation. It's an honor to have her reading my books, but given that I write about suspense and high drama, I sure hope she meant it as a compliment.
Either way, she's a great friend, and I even finagled an invitation to sit with Bill to watch her in an upcoming debate. I hear you might be joining us.
With the upcoming FEC deadline, this is a pivotal moment in the campaign. I hear you just contributed in the last few days, but will you consider another donation before the midnight Sunday deadline?

Now THAT would be one cool get-together! I wonder if I'd better my chances by donating another few bucks before midnight Sunday the 30th.
Just thought folks would be interested in this update.
On another note - some of you might have caught my diary last night, in which I vented my anger at Tweety & Russert and shared a few thoughts on a conference I attended last week - the Clinton Global Iniative. I findally figured out how to add pictures to my diaries (at least I HOPE this works!). I was lucky enough to attend with a press pass, and since I had a camera they let me get up front with all of the "real" photographers with my little digital camera. Some of these turned out well...
Here's Bill at the podium
This is a shot of Bill with the President of the Philippines, the President of Afghanistan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Vice President Al Gore among others.
So that's it on the pics for now. I took loads of pictures of folks like Jesse Jackson, Jane Goodall, Prime Ministers (present & former), celebrities and just plain folks like us. HowEVER (!) - it looks like I haven't quite figured out how to reduce the size of these and don't want to slow down everyone's browser, so I'll keep it to just a few this time.
One other thing - I just found out that Bill will be on Russert's show this Sunday morning. I'm sure he'll be asked about Hillary's campaign but I really hope they'll give him a chance to talk about this amazing conference. They're doing some incredible work at the CGI - and the rest of the world needs to know about it and get involved too.
