Dear Diary:
El Mundo reports that the Italian representative to the Coalition Interim Authority in Iraq, Marco Calamai, has resigned, citing profound disagreement with the policies of the United States. Here is the statement:
I am in profound disagreement with the policies of the Coalation with regard to both the economic reconstruction of the country and to the transition to democracy. In my opinion, only a plan approved by the United Nations involving all countries and giving an important role to Europe can offer any mitigation of the current grave crisis. The coalition's policies are not working and the Iraqis are becoming more and more furious. This public discontent only fuels terrorism.
