... the address has spread a feeling of insecurity."
Perspective is needed to understand our path to empire building. It is instructive to listen to the words of another empire's propagandist to understand the mindset of true believers and how the pursuit of power never really changes throughout history.
The diary quote I will post here are from "The Goebbels Diaries 1942-1943" by Louis T. Lochner. I hope you find them as insightful and illuminating as I do. I will continue post Goebbels daily diary quotes in the days ahead in hopes that his words will resonate with those who are concerned with the propaganda and actions of the Bush Administration.

The Fuehrer's extreme confidence and his firm grip of all domestic, foreign, and military problems are truly wonderful. He won't let anything confound him or mislead him. He believes in victory more firmly than ever, and of course he has every reason to do so. We shall achieve victory provided we continue to fight for it with the same energy and with the same selflessness.

The ...people must remain convinced - as indeed the facts warrant- that this war strikes at their very lives and their nation possibilities of development, and that they must fight it with their entire strength.

The questions raised by the Fuehrer speech are very numerous. In a certain sense the address has spread a feeling of insecurity. The people want especially to know what the Fuehrer now intends to do in order to improve the conditions he criticized and to call to account the people responsible for them. Undoubtedly speeches frequently draw such psychological consequences in their wake. The main thing is that the people have alerted to the seriousness of the situation and on the whole are aware that it is now a question of to be or not to be.
