A US District Judge has invalidated part of a 2001 Executive Order which "allowed former presidents and vice presidents to review executive records before they are released under the Freedom of Information Act." Full story is here.
Looks like there's some wiggle room in the so-called "narrowly crafted" ruling, but the upshot is that, if upheld, the ruling would theoretically open up more archived Presidential documents in a more timely manner. If I recall, GWB put this into effect back in '01 so his father's records would be less likely to see the light of day.
So what happens if this goes into force? We all know that Cheney's records will never pass the gates of the Naval Observatory unless they're in a mobile shredding truck (or electronic equivalent), but would the White House do the same thing?
