Blackwater's umbrella of legal immunity is being stripped away.
389-30. This means one thing: jam it down Bush's throat.
With prejudice.
A quick excerpt:
The White House and congressional Republicans said they support the intent of the bill, but thought it was drafted poorly.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the White House said the bill would have "unintended and intolerable consequences for crucial and necessary national security activities and operations." The statement did not explain further or give examples on how the bill would affect national security.
When a Republican complains that a law is poorly written, it means one thing: it's a law that attacks his prerogatives and actually addresses a problem.
As we all know, Republicans are ALL ABOUT solving problems.
One more quote:
Rep. Chris Shays, R-Connecticut, accused Democrats of rushing the bill through Congress in a partisan bid to criticize the Bush administration's handling of the war.
"It is amazing to me the number of men in Blackwater that have lost their lives and we never hear it on the other side of the aisle," Shays said. "Blackwater is evil. That's the way it appears in all the dialogue."
Shays: STFU.
OK. The Dems are not doing as much of what we want as any of us would like. But does anyone think that going back to the state of the last six years is preferable?
Now let's go to work on Congressional Republicans to make them override Bush's SCHIP veto.
***UPDATE*** So Condi decided to do something useful for once in her worthless life now that Congress has noticed this happening.
If there is one person who should just resign her office immediately following the Blackwater fiasco, it is her. I'd be surprised if she has the nerve to show her Botox'ed face in the MIddle East again. Why would anyone listen to her? Her department is Blackwater's exclusive client!
Of course she won't resign, and remains blithely ignorant (I suspect) about the effect her cowboy contractors have had on America's image abroad, which was bad enough already. After all, she IS a Size Two. That HAS to count for SOMETHING.
