We have so much to look forward to in the SF Bay Area! Next week our hero, Al Gore, will be visiting the Bay Area with several public appearances as we all await the announcement of the Nobel prize on Friday. Then next weekend there is the hip-hop chess festival and Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival (with lots of campaigning!) Looking a little further down the road, we anticipate massive national demonstrations on October 27, once again showing our resolve against the war criminal Bush and his current war on Iraq and planned war on Iran. Then, of course, it's time for Halloween.
But between those last two events there is something else that we all alter take note of. The big battle of Gore versus Bush takes place at Candlestick Park when the New Orleans Saints come into town to face the San Francisco 49ers. And in that contest, local hero Frank Gore will be running the ball for the 49ers, while Reggie Bush, the New Orleans superstar, tries to dampen our spirits.
Although Reggie Bush is, unlike George Bush, a respectable and honorable man, there is still some symbolism in this contest. One of the values of sport is to take our minds away from the problems in the beset us in the real world and give us a chance to kick back. So whatever football team you favor, if any, you should still root for a Gore victory over Bush on October 28. Unless, of course, some official misconduct interferes with the game.
I realize this isn't a political diary, but with this huge week coming up for all Gore supporters, I decided to take a few moments away from my teaching and political work to bring up something a bit irrelevant, but fun. If any of you will be in Cupertino for Gore is appearances, you'll see me wearing a modified Frank Gore jersey modified for our political contact sport.
Please don't recommend this diary, there are far more important things to discuss. But please do visit americaforgore.org if you have any interest in seeing Al Gore break through the defensive barriers and reached the White House. We are the offense of wanting a little create the openings to give Al the opportunity to win.
And a poll, because it is Friday you deserve it!
And finally, a heads-up that if you want to see a force of evil destroyed permanently, check out tonight's Doctor Who on the Sci-fi channel.
And have a pleasant and effective weekend!
