Too often, it is easy on this site, and others like it, to get wrapped up in the National politics and even International events. Sometimes it is too easy to do so, probably because it is much more interesting. However, there comes a time when, as "Tip" O'Neill is famous for saying,
All politics is local.
To that end, when a flyer came home in my son's paperwork, announcing that one of the members of the local school board had just announced his resignation, I decided that this was the time to get off the sidelines and start getting more involved.
Late Thursday evening (which is tomorrow as I am writing this), I will be trying my best to convince the remaining members of the local school board that of all the individuals who had submitted a "Letter of Interest" for this open seat, I am the best person to fill the remainder of the term. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to say, but all the inspiration I need is embodied in my son; since I want to do everything I can to ensure that my son has the best education possible, I see this as a prime opportunity to do what I can to provide for the long-term best interests of this community's educational needs.
I do not undertake this responsibility lightly. I have avoided entering into local politics in the past, due to the fact that I wanted to be present as my son was growing up. Although he is only eight years-old now, I believe that I can no longer be selfish enough to expect "other people" to take on the task of running governmental entities (be they local, state or national) while I sit on the sidelines complaining about how "they" are running things.
I do not know how many others have responded to the call for filling this vacancy, but at this time, I heartily believe that I am the best candidate to fill the remainder of the open term. At 8:30pm CDT, I will begin my campaign to convince the remaining members of the school board to select me for this open seat. I ask that you can take a moment, around that time, to wish a fellow Kossack well in this political endeavor.
Thank you!
