Do you know Democratic Congressional Candidate Scott Killips??

You won't find his name on the wall in the post office, but you just might see it on billboards and yard signs in the coming months. Scott Killips is running against Pete Hoekstra in Michigan's 2nd Congressional District. Today he launched his website.

You might not live in the 2nd CD, but do you know your local Congresscritter? While our state is blessed to have a fantastic Democratic Congressional Caucus, we're also cursed with a couple Republicans thrown in here and there, like Hoekstra, Tim Walberg, Thad 'Momma's Boy' McCotter, Candice Miller, Fred Upton, Dave Camp, Vern Ehlers, Joe Knollenberg and my own critter, Mike Rogers.

We all want them out, and there's only way to go about it, get to work pounding the pavement, working on research, raising money, and blogging, blogging, blogging.

One of the biggest reasons Michigan's progressive netroots is a national leader is due to our respected congressional watch-blogs. We're winning the battle, but the war is far from over, and we need your help.

Do you like to do research? There are plenty of skeletons in the Republican campaign finance closet, most available online.

Are you more of the artistic type? We can always use a few good men and women with mad Photoshopping/Illustrator skills.

Are you good with a camcorder? We can always use more trackers, following the Congresscritters at their various public events, just waiting for the next Macaca moment. Trust me, sooner or later it will happen, and you will be so glad you were there.

Do you like to write? We always need more bloggers publishing the facts and photos.

We've got a fantastic crew of CD watchbloggers, but there's always room for more help. If you're interested in pitching in no matter what way, contact me or email the contributors directly through their blogs.

Check out the list of Congressional WatchBlogs below -

We're still missing watchblogs on Candice Miller and Fred Upton, and there's a group of us that would love to help you get them running! Just drop me a line or keep tabs on all the Michigan action over at MichiganLiberal.

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

Thank you for blogging about this. I love action-oriented diaries, especially those that target gooper politicians. This reminds me of my NAACP days, when direct action was more common.

that we're finally going to make Hoekstra really work to keep his job here in MI-02?

Pete Hoekstra is such an absolute toad and I cannot wait to have a Democratic Congressman that actually gives a damn what their constituents want and need.

Hoekstra couldn't care less that 10's of thousands of MI-02 kids get healthcare because of SCHIP, he votes against it and vows to uphold bush's veto...

He could give a fuck that a large percentage of his constituency makes minimum wage, he's voted against raising the minimum wage every single time it's came up for over a decade...

But he cares a lot that MI-02's richest resident doesn't have to pay the estate tax or gets a special tax rate for his capital gains and dividend interest...

By the way, MI-02's richest person is Erik freaking Prince of Blackwater fame and he is the ONLY person living in MI-02 that is rich enough to ever have to pay the estate tax... for all of the other nearly 700,000 people in MI-02, the estate tax means nothing, because they'll never have enough money to ever have to worry about it.

    Fuck Peter Hoekstra.

You might not live in the 2nd CD

Oh, but I DO live in the 2nd CD, and I'm soooo psyched for Scott Killips! What a great guy, and how cool that he's stepping up to run for Congress! I fully plan on working my ass off for him, and I fully plan on attending the Killips For Congress Victory Party next year.

As for the watch blogs, mad propz to AikoAdam and all the other folks at the MI watchblogs. There was a watchblog for Candy Miller at one point (CandyLand, which is wayyyy too funny), but it's dead.
