WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 — US officials warned the People's Republic of China on Tuesday not to honor Al Gore, saying a planned award ceremony in Beijing for the Democratic leader would have "an extremely serious impact" on relations between the countries.
Mr. Gore arrived at his hotel in Beijing on Tuesday before a meeting with Tibet’s Communist Party boss, Zhang Qingli, at the Communist Party’s 17th National Congress in Beijing today.
Speaking at a Rose Garden briefing on the sidelines of an afternoon tea for Blackwater employees, the officials condemned Al Gore as a resolute separatist and said foreign leaders must stop encouraging his "splittist" mission.
"Such a person who basely splits his homeland and doesn’t even love his homeland has been welcomed by some countries and has even been receiving this or that award," America's Department of Homeland Security advocate Rep. Peter King told reporters during the event, which was sporadically interrupted by short, sharp bursts of semiautomatic fire while the brave Blackwater lads let off steam at some Mr. Lincoln hybrids that had seen better days.
Sorry. It had to be done.
