People may remember that a previous diary of mine complained about MoveOn’s tendency to hit up liberals across the country for cash to fund campaigns in liberal strongholds like New York, Los Angeles, or other "important" cities. I took them to task for requesting my money when they had never expended any real money in Kentucky. Taking money from Red State liberals means less money is left for progressive candidates in that state, which makes the Blue 'bluer' and the Red 'redder'.
Well, MoveOn has arrived in force to assist with the upcoming KY gubernatorial election! They’ve been asking local liberals to house their volunteers, and they’ve set up HQs where training and organization of actions are taking place. They’ve been calling local Democrats, asking them to be block captains in the GOTV effort. I was one of those people, and explained that, as the spouse of our precinct chair, I’m already fully engaged. However, I gave them permission to let other block captains contact me about assistance and/or information.
Finally, Red State money is coming back to a Red State, and it feels good. It doesn’t hurt that ours is one of the few elections this year, or that it’s one of the more competitive elections (i.e. Steve Beshear has a good chance of winning), but I’m enjoying the love!
I know that next year MoveOn’s main focus will probably be the Presidential election, but I hope they throw a few dollars our way to help us get rid of McConnell once and for all. I certainly feel better about throwing money their way.
