In an
earlier diary entry I discussed the possibility of having a Daily Kos book club. There seemed to be some enthusiasm.
Below is how I am recommending it will work.
I (or someone else that wanted to volunteer) would create an account to manage the book club.
In this account's diary, there would be an account for nominating books. When someone nominates a book s/he provides the book, author, date and brief (a few lines) discussion of the book and provides a link to her/his diary.
In the nominee's diary there would be a more detailed discussion of the pros and cons of discussing the book. The people that want to discuss the book will then identify themselves and agree upon a date.
Once they self-identified group has a book and date, they go back to the Book Group account's diary. There will be a separate diary entry for organized book groups. In this entry will be the minimum info about the book, the date discussion will begin and a link to the diary where it was discussed already.
The discussion will take place in the diary of the nominee or one of the other members of the book group. Once this diary entry is created, there will be a "reply" created to the listing in the "organized book group" diary.
This will allow people to bookmark two diaries that will serve as springboards to the rest of the book group discussions. By keeping most of the posting in individual's diaries, hopefully these diaries won't become bogged down with hundreds of postings.
