You would think that his handlers (if such a thing even existed) would want to keep him out of any woods and keep any and all hunting weapons out of his evil pair of hands, but alas, that is not happening.
Instead, Dick Cheney is coming, where is is not wanted, to tie up our traffic as he wanders through the woods of New York's Hudson Valley in search of things to shoot at.
I have not yet heard about planned protests to greet the Vice War Criminal, but if anyone has ideas or knows who might be interested in organizing a welcoming party, please post.
Our local paper, the Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting the following in today's edition.

Cheney jaunt may snarl local traffic Vice president plans Dutchess hunting trip
By John Ferro
Poughkeepsie Journal
Vice President Dick Cheney's planned hunting trip to Dutchess County figures to close roads and cause traffic delays on some major roadways Sunday and Monday.
Cheney is expected to arrive Sunday night at Stewart International Airport and travel to a hotel in Poughkeepsie, according to two sources familiar with his plans. He is planning to leave Poughkeepsie on Monday morning and head to the Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club in the Town of Union Vale before leaving the area later Monday on a flight out of Stewart.
Motorists should plan for road closures and considerable associated delays on Interstate 84 and Route 9 Sunday night, and possibly on Route 55 and again on Interstate 84 on Monday. Depending on what time he travels Monday morning, his trip could disrupt school bus service in affected areas.
George Beckwith, the Arlington school district's director of transportation, said he was not aware of the visit and there was little the district can do to prepare.
"There is nothing we can change," Beckwith said.
Beckwith said he hopes if the motorcade does travel on Route 55, it does not pass the high school when the buses are arriving. Beckwith said the peak traffic time is between 6:55 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.
"I would hope they are going to avoid that," Beckwith said. "Certainly, the police agencies know about that traffic problem. I would hope they encourage them to work outside of that time frame."
Cheney last visited Dutchess County in December 2003, when he attended a fundraiser at the Pawling Mountain Club. His arrival shut down Interstate 84 for about an hour, including many crossings. On his departure, I-84 was closed again for about 20 minutes.
In October 2001, Cheney hunted at the Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club.
Cheney last made plans to go hunting in Dutchess in 2005. He was expected to visit the Orvis Sandanona shooting grounds in Millbrook on Oct. 29. The trip was canceled hours after Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, was indicted in the CIA leak investigation.
A few years ago, I remember sitting in a cramped coach seat at the airport in Minneapolis because Cheney was there for a fundraiser, tieing up air traffic. I remember the captain telling us we'd be sitting there a while, with many of us on board groaning frustratedly. The captain told us the reason, and seemed to be thinking we'd be impressed at the name of Dick Cheney. Instead, the groans just seemed a bit louder.
I am reminded of how personally despised Bush and Cheney now are, and if gives me some sense of satisfaction that this aura of their despicability is something that they will carry around with themselves. One sees this in such moments as when these two bastards attempt to do such things as throw out the first pitch at a ball game and get booed by an ostensibly non partisan crowd. Or in an example like Henry Kissinger (or even Donald Rumsfeld) who, for a long time, didn't dare risk setting foot in a number of other countries, for fear of being arrested as the war criminal that he was. Same, hopefully, for these two.
Here in the Hudson Valley, we are quickly changing over from red to blue, having elected in 2006 such 1st termers as NY-20's Kirsten Gillibrand (who, disappointingly, is proving to be rather conservative) and my rep, John Hall of the 19th district (who, thankfully, is proving to be the smart progressive we hoped that he would be, though in a careful and inconspicuous way, which should help him get re-elected). So in a way, Cheney is kind of getting in our faces by showing up here, in a place where he is not wanted. Here is a small sample of comments (some delightfully snarky) from Poughkeepsie Journal readers to indicate this.

Why they are making the traffic stop, and school buses run late, is because Darth Cheney likes to eat children, and they are afraid he may just eat a few.
Keep your kids safe, and stay home with them Monday, and lock your doors.
BTW -- When does VEEP season open? I think it's Sunday.

Better watch out. He's liable to mistakenly shoot one of us. Then he'll send the National Gaurd to capture any nay sayers and send us all to Guantanamo for questioning. Be afraid, stay off the roads and out of the Bushes.

I agree that the political angles are not worth pursuing in this forum but I think there is room to point out that the Vice-President should have better things to do than to fire guns when there are actual duties he could be performing. I just hope he will not be shooting at fish because that would make him in possession of weapons of bass destruction.
The disdain this Vice-President has shown for the Constitution, the public, human life, reason, intellect, and accountability all account, in part, for a wide-ranging shortage of patience for his activities.
I intend to make alternate travel arrangements for Monday morning and will deal with the possible disruptions the same way I would if a rather large mound of horse manure was placed in front of me as I walked along. I would simply walk around it but would reserve the right to comment on the smell.

I hear a few of the birds were snatched of the street and `rendered' to syria.
One of which was water boarded and actually gave up the location of Bin Ladin-who says torture is not reaping any benefits.

hey doesn't the dick- I mean Dick have more important things to do like nulling and voiding the constitution or something? Oh wait , the Bill of Rights, & democracy- that's all liberals and sissys
Of course, there are still a handful of Cheney lovers and apologists, probably just about everywhere, such as this guy, who regularly posts his insane, right-wing, Limbaugh/Malkin/Coulter/Hannity provided talking points and deranged hate speech, such as this rant about wanting to see liberals shot. Note also his invitation is to the Kos community at large.

Hence the call to shoot Liberals!
I guess every village does have a resident idiot.
Anyway, I am looking forward to this visit passing quickly unless, as I inquired earlier, there might be a way to let Dick Cheney know his presence is not exactly wanted here in an increasingly blue, edging more progressive region of a country that he and his cronies have sought, in their infinite greed and arrogrance, to destroy.
