RedState.org seeks to comfort its glum readers with a map that shows how Republican the state still is in a post
here.
It looks largely along the lines of what the GOP has done for years, showing large swaths of (largely unpopulated) red areas with just a few areas of blue to somehow show that there is more GOP support. This map, however, goes one further than I've seen before, with red counties surrounding blue dots within their borders.
The rub that they don't share with their readers, one of which asked "How did the Dems manage to win all of the lakes? :)" is that cities are independent of the county totals, which basically means nearly every area that actually has a population went blue, but the non-urban areas which make up the bulk of real estate went for Kilgore.
I expect to see this sort of spin in the future, even in states where cities are actually part of the county they're in. As Republican losses mount, they may even develop a method to make individual Democrat votes appear as blue specs on a red map that represents vacant land...
