Kathleen Parker wrote an article praising Laura Bush's routine and added "Good thing she ain't in Saudi Arabia"
She goes on to compare our society to the arab societies such as "the Taliban's Afghanistan. Or prewar Iraq. Or northern Nigeria today. Or any number of Islamic theocracies where women who disobey their husbands - or walk down the street uncovered or unaccompanied by a male family member - are flogged, beheaded or stoned to death, depending on the whims of the ruling fathers." more on the flip
aside from questioning whether Iraq or Afghanistan today are really
that much better, the article left me asking myself "Is this the new standard?" We are more free than Saudi Arabia! WOOO HOOOO! GO USA!
OK Kathleen, while you are singing the praises of free speech, how about singing it for someone OTHER than the president's wife! How about free speech for people who actually disagree with the president? How about news conferences or town hall meetings that aren't scripted? How about being able to protest the president without being herded to a free speech zone? Naaaah
