Today was my day to go to Michigan for election day training. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Chicago, where I live, to Lansing, where the training session was. (I should mention there were about 6 scheduled in different Mich. cities,I'm working closer to St. Joe on election day, but I picked Lansing because it was in the afternoon and I didn't want to get up at 5 to drive for a morning session).
The weather was HORRIBLE. Storming, raining, fog, and the driving was awful. After two hours, I was not even half way there. I thought about turning around and flying up to Detroit later in the week for a different session, but I was supposed to pick up credentials for some other folks in Lansing, and I didn't want to confuse things, so I kept going. The weather didn't get any better, and I was thinking-what if I get there and the weather was so bad that hardly anyone showed and it's over? I was really worried.
As I pulled up to the union hall, I was STUNNED. There were more than a hundred cars with plates from all over the midwest. About two hundred people were inside, all election day lawyers--and this was only one session. We did our training and went on our separate ways--fired up for 11-2.
And, the sun was shining the whole drive home!
