SC Democratic Part's executive director Joe Werner explained:
"This vote is very important. They have a critical job to do to keep this primary in shape."
Despire Werner being a self-professed fan of Colbert, the other sticks-in-the-mud on the executive council did not share his opinion.
Hopefully they will refund Colbert's $2,500 filing fee.*
"I would watch the show tonight," [Werner] said. "I have heard he'll have something on."
Personally, I think the SC Democratic Party needs to get their heads out of their asses. Colbert's "Favorite Son" primary run (only in the state of SC) would inject some much needed humorous truth into a process riddled with truthiness.
* The Republican filing fee for SC, btw, is $35,000.
[edited: Werner was not in fact a stick-in-the-mud, he "gets it."]
UPDATE
profmatt reports that Colbert will get a refund.
When asked about the opinion, professional killjoy and member of the executive council, Waring Howe, bloviated mindlessly, "He's really trying to use South Carolina Democrats as suckers so he can further a comedy routine."
Unperterbed by her compatriot's clenched sphincter, state Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter stunningly reminded them that a Colbert candidacy would place a unique focus on South Carolina "in a way that none of the other candidates on the ballot have been able to do."
