please grow a spine
I wrote this to my Senator, but please feel free to copy and send to yours, too. They need to hear it.
Dear Senator Durbin,
We are at a critical point in our nation's history. I fear for what this country will become if the Bush administration is allowed to continue it's policies of obstructing justice and subverting the Constitution. I feel you are in a unique position to keep this from happening.
As Assistant Majority Leader, can you please explain to our fellow Democrats that they are losing the 2008 elections, right now?
Four of our top presidential candidates are current or former Senators. If the Senate continues to look weak, continues to give the Bush administration what they want, whenever they want, it won't matter who voted for what. Our candidates will all be branded as weak and ineffectual, and the base of dedicated Democratic voters will be disheartened.
Please vote against the nomination of Michael B. Mukasey. We don't need another Attorney General who does not understand the separation of powers and who believes the President is above the law.
Please convince Sen. Harry Reid to stop allowing the Republicans to hold up proceedings without a formal filibuster. Make them do the real thing, Senator. Put them on the record, and make them waste the time, every time they hold up the vote. Right now the American people are not making much distinction between the Republicans who are holding up the people's business, and the Democratically lead Congress, who we elected to do it. The distinction needs to be clearer, or you will all be written off together.
If Congress does not stop Bush from bombing Iran, we will have a Republican president in 2008, and probably beyond. People will not be able to help themselves if you let Bush lie us into another unneccessary war.
Finally, please start to restore our Constitution and our national moral authority. I am embarrassed to be American, and I don't want to feel this way any more.
Senator, I am so happy to live in Illinois, bluest of the blue states, and I proudly call you my Senator. Please, please, do not let this important moment pass us by. We may never be able to get back what we loose, if we let it all slip away now.

I heard an interview with Naomi Wolf about her new book, and it scared the shit out of me. How do we get them to pay attention to what is happening right in front of them??
