clip from today's Chron article:
Mexicans were gripped Saturday by images of dramatic rescues from flooding in the southeastern state of Tabasco, where much of the state capital, Villahermosa, was under water and the governor said that thousands of people waited on their rooftops for help...
remind you of anything?
Katrina-like visions haunt Mexico / Mexicans watch rooftop rescues on TV in flooded Tabasco state
It would seem that, the United States is responding much the same way we did to Katrina
I did a search on the news for tabasco and united states response, and got no hits. Seems that we are no longer the country that doesn't torture, and no longer the country that responds first to disaster.
Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Mexico's Red Cross is preparing for a possible outbreak of cholera or other water-borne diseases in the southern state of Tabasco, where flooding has displaced 800,000.
seems like something that we could help with.
did a similar search with global warming and got 2 hits, both from Chinese sources. I don't know, but how are we going to chance the publics' perception of the global warming issue if we don't keep mentioning that there's something different about what we're facing now? The reason there might be links in the chinese press is they seem to be facing a similar problem on an even larger scale. Who's heard 200 million affected by China's floods: Red Cross 200 million?!?
Can we please start taking this issue seriously? Is there any candidate that considers this the issue of our time?
update:
The Red Cross estimates 10 million people have been affected by the latest typhoon damage and floods in Vietnam, and has launched an emergency appeal for $3 million in relief aid.
