Oh, Pahleaze, with emphasis on the 'eaze'....
I have heard or read it all now.
Former President Bill Clinton is out stating his wife is getting swiftboated because of her poor debate performance?
Is the former President asking us to not expect Hillary Clinton to answer questions, given to her?
Is the former President asking us to accept Hillary Clinton's non-answer stance?
I am here to tell you, Mr. President, the answer is no to all the above.
Barack Obama said Tuesday that former President Clinton is making a leap to compare treatment of his wife in the presidential race to the "swift boat" criticism of John Kerry in 2004.
The former president had encouraged an audience in Nevada Monday not to let "trivial matters" take away the election from the Democrats as they have in the past. He cited the television ads during the 2004 presidential campaign that questioned Kerry's patriotism and campaign commercials in 2002 suggesting that Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga. was soft on terrorism.
Both Kerry and Cleland won medals for their service in Vietnam, during which Kerry commanded a Navy "swift boat" and Cleland lost three limbs. Both were defeated after the ads aired.
Sorry, not buying what is trying to be sold.
Anyone and everyone that tuned in last Tuesday got their own whiff of what Hillary Clinton was dishing out. It was either "yay" or "ney".
Now, to come out with a comparision that Barack Obama or even John Edwards is swiftboating Clinton, is a very far stretch.
Is it because Clinton is a woman that she is not to answer tough questions? I even saw a clip from Guiliani, now on his stump, stutter-steppin' Clinton. We all don't like to see stuff like that berating our candidates, but if Clinton would have just answered the questions, we would be conversing about something else.
Obama...
"I was pretty stunned by that statement," Obama said with a chuckle when asked about the former president's comment in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
He said that when debating last week whether illegal immigrants should be given driver's licenses, Hillary Rodham Clinton "seemed to contradict what she said previously."
Dodd...
Sen. Chris Dodd, another candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, called the Clintons' response to the debate "outrageous."
"To have the former president come out and suggest this is a form of swiftboating ... is way over the top in my view," Dodd said in a telephone interview.
"If elected to the presidency, there will be a lot of tough questions and if you can't handle it in a debate without accusing everybody who has an issue with you of piling on or a sexist attack, somehow, first of all that's unwise and, secondly, it's false," Dodd said.
What is this really about? That is what I want to know. Bad internal numbers, poor debate performance, electability, what?
As much as I admire former President Clinton, to try to equate democratic candidates as swiftboating Hillary, because she refused to answer direct questions, just really make one wonder, if she is even ready for this job.
For real.
Update [2007-11-6 23:11:3 by icebergslim]:
Clinton, you want to be president. If you win, you will be the first woman, and that will be wonderful and historic. But tell your surrogates to cut the race and gender crap. None of the men running have shown they are sexist. And none are racist.
You want the job, earn it. Go through the fire like the men. But don¹t try to play the victim. It's unbecoming of a commander-in-chief.
Amen, Roland S. Martin.
