The House passed ENDA, hurrah! Oh... but ooops.... it left some people out. It left out transgender people. Oh but there are so few of them! And, besides, they make some people feel icky.
Isn't that special? To be told, not just out in meat-space, but here on daily Kos, tha you make people feel icky?
Of course, some of the people cheering loudest for ENDA are not so alien to being thought icky, themselves. Yes, indeed. Lots of people think gay people are icky. Lesbians too. Oooooh! Icky! You do that with another guy? How icky!
Not just them, though. A lot of the rest of us make people feel icky, too. You know - people who look different than most people, who think differently from most people, who worship a different God, or no God. Oh, and biracial couples make some people feel icky. People who pierce their lips, or wear tattoos make some people feel icky, too.
In fact, if you're on daily Kos, it's almost certain that you make some people feel icky. I'm sure I do.
You know how this ENDA bill makes me feel?
Icky.
It separates people into littler groups, so they can be more easily ignored. We, the icky should be united. When we are united, there are more of us than of the 'normal' people. A lot more. But, divided, we are weak and easy to ignore. And easier to come after, a la Niemoller. And people coming after me makes me feel more than icky. It scares me. Because those people are out there, they are armed and they are dangerous. Armed not just with guns but with dangerous, viral ideas. And the most dangerous idea is that some of us, because of who we lust after, what we look like, how we dress, who we love, who we worship, are icky.
