it seems to us that, as long as they aren't bothered by the sheer hypocrisy of their positions (and they never seem to be), the hardly-ever-right wing has a brilliant defense by using the flag and bible to justify themselves.
now, it must be noted, that the two are never able to be used simultaneously, for they would cancel each other out, much like kirk and anti-kirk in the alternate universe episode of star trek.
for instance, the iraqi invasion was justified by wrapping it in the flag. of course, when someone points out that it's against christian doctrine to kill, well, they're called unamerican.
and then, the hue and cry to keep terry shiavo alive was well-explained by several pithy waves of in the bible. and, when someone points out that the intervention of congress into the judicial process was
unconstitutional, they are called godless heathens.
luckily for the repubbbs, they have an incredible case of short term memory loss. they can throw the constitution in our faces to avoid further gun regulations, then attempt to destroy it in the next breath in order to hold "enemy combatants" without due process, as if they never even read the document in the first place.
and only in the hardly-ever-right-wing's mind can "thou shalt not kill" not apply to war and death penalty. (to be fair, moses never said "thou shalt not torture," so, we gues we have to spot them that one).
but, dont' worry, kids. we have reality on our side. yes, it may not be much of a comfort now, but trust us, even if everybody in world thinks they can fly, gravity is going to have something to say about it once they step off that cliff.
the same holds true for the laws of economics, society, environment and every other system in which human kind operates.
just 'cuz they say it's so on tv news and talk radio, don't make it so.
the flag and the bible, while comforting and inspiring, aren't the king's x for every action that human desire creates. sooner or later, chickens will come home to roost.
