Did anyone hear the Randi Rhodes Show yesterday? Of all people, she had on Alan Keyes. It was his crazy contention that Jeb Bush had the power to reinsert the feeding tube because it was in his executive power and the courts could not interfere because they were the judicial branch and they had no executive power. I'm not sure I'm quoting him exactly, but his main point was that THE COURTS could not intefere with THE GOVERNOR. He said it was all 'geometrical' whatever that means.
To hear this for yourselves, go to
the Randi Rhodes Web site under Show Sound, click on the Alan Keyes interview. It is scary. It's a huge misinterpretation of Florida's constitution and our understanding of constitutional government in general twisted to the convience of the Right to Life wingnuts. It's very twisted. And the frightening thing is not so much that he believes it but that it seems to be in message form, although I'm not quite sure who he was trying to reach on the Randi Rhodes Show. The Right to Lifers would love it because his reasoning would seem to give them cover. Too bad even a 4th-grader could poke holes in the argument.
I don't mind a good political debate, but when they start building arguments, with a straight face, that advocates that we tear apart constitutional government, we are in a world that's way beyond scary.
