So have you ever seen that ... well I don't know which it was in the series ... that Lord of the Rings movie where there's the fellowship and the one guy becomes all overpowered by the evil of the Ring into almost killing Frodo! Aaaaah! And then even at one point SAM, the most loyal hobbit, almost turned against Frodo.
And although there were also the usual fights and feuds between those in the Fellowship, the ones I mention above were real dangers, and very frightening and spooky besides.
Oh Fellowship is in so many stories. And so many movies. From the temporary and violent fellowships of bands of thieves and crooks to the high and mighty fellowships of heroes and wizards.
I agree with what some commenter or other in the I-Ching said about fellowship. That it has to be based outside of the narrow egotistical interests of people, that it has to be based on something that can transcend those things, and the stronger that "something" is, the more likely the fellowship will survive in order to meet its goal.
Cause there's always a goal in fellowship. And by the way, now that I'm thinking of it, there are some gray areas, I think, in fellowship -- like Robin Hood, a criminal, yet there was some glory and heroism there, so it's not always apparent which fellowships are something one could commit themselves to with a strong heart.
But I digress.
I think there is a fellowship here at Daily Kos.
I think as 2008 comes closer, we'll see that fellowhship in action. Amid the fire and thunder of the big arguments and oppositions, preenings and posings, there'll be folks building an infrastructure for the upcoming elections and what that means to us as netroots fellows. After all, we didn't come here to learn embroidery, did we?
My Madame Magda level prediction is that with an influx of new and different folks to this site (and there's a lot of new folks!), it's going to be a new paradigm, making itself known as real fellowship, with all the dangers and delights that implies.
