While this article "Bush demands fix to alternative minimum tax" may be a few days old I thought I'd write about it to discuss something that very much bothers me. MSNBC, a supposedly left leaning institution publishes this headline, however the true story is in the byline "President threatens to veto bill that would raise taxes to offset AMT losses".
This is a perfect example of the new Bush game... stand in the way of something getting done and then blame the Democrats for it because they are in control of congress. I know why Bush does it, I would even go as far as to call it Machiavellian. What I don't understand is how he gets the press to give him such a favorable headline.
The headline should read something like:
- "Bush threatens to veto AMT relief"
- "Millions of Americans to pay higher taxes with Bush veto"
- "Bush protects the rich at the expense of the middle class with veto"
I've seen worse headlines, but this was the one that jumped out at me today. I'm going to suggest that when you see headlines like this, let the editor know with a quick email. That's what I'm going to go do now.
