Denny Has Left the Building!
The Daily Herald and the Chicago Tribune
have both reported within the hour that former Speaker Denny Hastert will resign effective 10:59 pm tonight, Monday November 26.
Offering no explanation in his letter to Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Rep. Hastert did state his desire to "minimize inconvenience to the voters and expense to the counties in the 14th..."
Concerned about the 14th, eh?
The Daily Herald:
The special elections could cost taxpayers in the 14th Congressional District more than $1 million, according to election officials from Kane and other counties in the district.
I know we’ll hear from John Laesch’s campaign-I started volunteering for them recently, and I know they’ve all been waiting Denny to make it official.
I for one, couldn't be happier to see him go.
John Laesch
UPDATE: John Laesch will be live blogging at firedoglake tomorrow at 2:30pm CST, to discuss the special election and the tremendous opportunities it offers. Howie Klein already has weighed in at DownWithTyranny, and John's campaign will be back here tomorrow as well.
The first real contest of this election cycle happens in less than ten weeks!
