Despite a lukewarm response from his staff, Congressman Tom Feeney's office most assuredly knows about the Interstate Traveler Hydrogen Superhighway. I know. I was there when the information was presented.
I could not have asked for better timing! Last night, I went to the League of Women Voters' annual Seminole Soiree in Heathrow and had a great time. People are genuinely excited about the Interstate Traveler and the fact that I can bring it to Central Florida once elected.
Even though my district does not extend into Seminole County, I met some constituents there and they were even more excited about what I am building for our common future.
If that weren't enough, then I read Billy's piece in the current issue of the Orlando Weekly and find a very solid piece of writing about what Justin Sutton has invented. You can read the story online at
OrlandoWeekly.com
Justin Sutton supports my campaign! Justin Sutton has committed to building his system here well ahead of most of the rest of the nation and the world once I am on Capitol Hill. This is big stuff!
So, if the buzz is building so well, why don't the members of Congressman Feeney's staff remember my escorting Justin to see them last year? Well, it might have something to do with the fact that we met with Adam, the office manager at the time, and he later resigned suddenly for unrelated reasons. It can be a real downer to have a boss with ethical challenges.
Anyway, let me give you a bit of back story. My wonderful colleagues in the Sierra Club of Central Florida arranged the meeting in Mr. Feeney's district office near the University of Central Florida. It took place at 3:30PM on Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Justin and I drove there in his rental car, a red Chevy Caprice Classic. The meeting lasted about an hour.
On a parallel note, why didn't the office of Mr. Keller and Mr. Mica respond to the request for statement from the Orlando Weekly? Could it be that they still believe that conventional, diesel-powered commuter rail is the future of mass transit in Central Florida? That would be my guess. They certainly were ambivalent about the whole thing when Justin and I sat in their conference room.
Here's the bottom line: this is happening. We now have Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty (a Republican in a non-partisan seat) on board with spreading the good news of the Interstate Traveler. Tonight, Jim Griffin, Justin Sutton and I present the same great story at Celebration Heritage Hall. In the coming days, we will present it to the Orange County legislative delegation followed by the Seminole delegation next week.
The day after that, I will tell the same story to Disney cast members at the annual Environmental Expo at the Team Disney building in Lake Buena Vista.
This is really happening!
You have a chance to hear from Justin directly, too. He will present at a pair of house parties for my campaign this weekend. Tickets will be available for a short time longer. The URLs you need are listed here:
