I've always enjoyed reading Joseph Cannon's
blog. I've been following his search for proof that his computer is being watched in NSA's spying program. His
first entry was a few days ago. He followed the advice of Left Coaster and did the following:
If you're running Windows, go to Start/Run/cmd to get to the DOS prompt.
Then type tracert nsa.gov
Your computer will then try to find a path to the NSA (whose IP number is 12.110.110.204) in 30 easy steps. This process will take a little while.
The NSA's IP number probably won't show up in your traceroute -- but that's not the location you're really looking for. What you're looking for is that small room in San Francisco. Which means that the following string is key:
sffca.ip.att.net
He said that "sffca.ip.att.net" showed up and when I tried it, it showed up on mine too.
In a
later entry, Cannon found some more interesting things:
the number 12.110.110.131 showed up at the end of the trace. This number belongs to LinguaListek, a mysterious firm which seems to be a branch of dNovus, whose president is an ex NSA guy.
Once again, the results from my computer also showed that same number.
In one of his entries, Cannon tells of some communications with a "geek" who was supposedly helping him out by telling him not to worry. Cannon was suspicious and details his suspicions about his "spooky friend" here.
Anyone out there have any reassurances for me and for Joseph Cannon? Are we paranoid, misinformed, or right on target?
