Today I received my absentee ballot for the Democratic primary.
California has one of the most liberal absentee ballot provisions in that any voter can be asked to be assigned to permanent absentee ballot status. About 25% of all votes in California are now cast absentee.
The question is: what effect does early voting in California have on the primary? What do you think?
My belief is that Kerry is helped the most by this since:
1. He is surging everywhere and any dropoff he has by March 2 will be somewhat mitigated.
and
2. Candidates that may drop out by March 2 will split the anti-Kerry vote in this early voting.
Usually, I vote early (mainly so I don't forget) - this year I have decided to wait and see who is viable on March 2.
