Kossacks come and go. I know this because surely there are not 144,198 active Kossacks writing diaries and commenting. Indeed, according to Jotter, only 253 Kossacks posted diaries yesterday. Only 2,505 Kossacks recommended those diaries. Only 6,720 Kossacks read those diaries. Only 2,060 Kossacks commented in those diaries.
And most of those thousands are probably all Bob Johnson and/or his dog Rex.
Seriously though, the overwhelming majority of registered Kossacks here just read. And that's fine. But just as many are probably not even around anymore.
We know this because some of those 144,198 were banned trolls. They are not using those accounts any more. Still others were legitimately created second accounts. Anyone remember Lucius Vorenus? Yeah, he was an ass. But he is gone too. Another famous Kossack, the Holy Handgrenade, has had numerous accounts as well. None were used as sockpuppets, though. He just likes to change identities with the change of the seasons.
So all of this number crunching got me wondering: how many of the truly old time ancient founding father Kossacks are still around? You are considered a "founding father" or a first generation Kossack is your UID is under 10,000. Those under that magical number probably registered here from October 2002 to March 2004.
How many of them are still at the very least lurking around, as I have recently, reading and shaking their heads at these young kids fighting the Second Primary War?
I have found recently, that after you have spent some time away from Daily Kos for whatever reason, it feels like going back to your college a couple of years after you have graduated. You feel out of place. You feel like a stranger in your own home. It gives meaning to the phrase "You can't go home again." So if you are an old timer lurker, let's get you out of the woodwork and let's get you telling old yarns to these kids about how things used to be back in our day.
Oh yeah, and vote in the poll.
Note: To find out what your UID (User Identification Number) is, take your mouse cursor, and hover it over your user name in a comment you have written. Your UID # should appear at the bottom of your browser. If you need help, post a comment in the diary and I will tell you what your number is.
