yesterday, i posted a diary about tom toles' cartoon in the washington post that took the paper to task for writing a front page story giving wider attention to mere internet rumors about barack obama.
in the comments for that diary, user david78209 asked me if i would "do another diary to tell us the pleasant surprise if their ombudsman does indeed reprimand the paper for printing that story"
well, it looks like that's going to have to wait for another week.
deborah howell, the ombudsman for the washington post, posted this week's column on the internet (it will be in the sunday print edition), and the entire column is dedicated to the death of washington football player sean taylor.
this is pretty understandable, as it's certainly the most talked about story here in town for those who don't obsess on politics 24/7. howell ends her column with this statement:
Next week: The Obama story that's burning up the Internet.
so, looks like we'll just have to wait another week to see what the post's ombudsman thinks about all of this. goodness knows that something more newsworthy could happen in the ensuing seven days, and we may never hear her opinion on this story at all.
