This morning on ABC's Good Morning America, there was a short segment interviewing Pakistani Youth where they question the existence of the 'Global War on Terror's' posterchild Osama Bin Laden.
The young people in the interview all seemed to agree that Osama Bin Laden was created by the CIA to destroy the image of Islam.
Needless to say, the ABC interviewer seemed a bit surprised by their answers. His response seemed to be "but what do you mean, there's no boogeyman?"
Here's the transcript from the interview and the link:
Voice Over: When I asked about Osama's latest audiotape, one of them answered with a question of her own.
Young woman: Who is Osama Bin Laden? He’s just a character created by America.
First Young Man: An 'idea person' of Pakistan would probably follow along those same lines and believe that Osama is basically a CIA agent who is working undercover to put a bad image of Islam.
Interviewer: Really? So that there is no really...there is no Osama Bin Laden?
Second Young Man: Alot of them find it difficult to believe that such Muslims exist.
Interviewer: We could all drive an hour from where we are right now and find many, many people who stand by what Osama Bin Laden says in the spirit of Islam?
Second Young Man: To be quite honest, that’s a very marginalized section of Pakistani society. Islamic extremism that you find here did not really exist in Pakistan pre-9/11...or pre-Musharraf’s government.
Note to the interviewer - Here's the correct response:
"But you see here in America we have a media that tells us everyday that Osama is real and waiting in the shadows, waiting to get us!"
