Thirty two ex ambassadors have come out singing Hillary's praises for the purpose of saying that on Day One she can handle American foreign policy. Other than the fact that, with a sprinkling of career foreign service officers, all of the signatories owed their ambassadorial jobs to Bill Clinton, the letter is a parody of First Lady doings. It reads a little like saying that vice presidents prior to Lyndon Johnson (plus GW Bush and Dan Quayle)had so much experience attending funerals they should have gotten roles on "Six Feet Under." For example, there is this little tid bit: "Perhaps most famously, in her historic speech at the UN Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, she declared that "women's rights are human rights."
Wow! If Hillary had not had a speech writer insert this phrase into the speech, women would now have fewer rights!
The letter and signatories are reported on TPM at http://tpmelectioncentral.com/...
On a sadder and infuriating note, Hillary Clinton is lauded for comforting victims of the the Rwanda genocide, a genocide that occurred on her watch as First Lady. One million Africans were killed and the United States did not lift a finger to prevent this well planned genocide.
All in all the letter is damning by its lack of substance. Hillary Clinton did not care one wit about foreign policy prior to 9/11 - if she was so convinced that Iraq was such a danger in 2002 and was so prescient, why don't we see her fingerprints all over Iraq policy during Bill's presidency? There are no achievements listed in the letter; in fact the tone of the letter suggests these ambassadors would be supporting Princess Diana if she had been America's people's princess.
If you want to talk effective first ladies - let's look at the ex Mrs. Sarkozy who with alacrity travelled to Libya to help get Palestinian nurses and a European doctor freed. Now that is one effective First Lady!
