Today I logged in to Bloomberg.com to see how my investments were doing. They've been better, I wished them a speedy recovery and went on the the News and Opinion pages to see what was going on in the world. I found this interesting analysis by a guy named Kevin Hassett who is somehow affilliated with John McCain. After reading the article, I now understand why John McCain is failing. You may not have to read any farther than the title to understand: "Tax Fix May Doom Spending Cuts, and Democrats".
Well that made me giggle since I'm pretty sure that things as obscure as the Alternative Minimum Tax will doom pretty much no one. So for a look at how Republicans think, I decided to read the entire article. More after the cut...
First, let's start by examining the photo that is used:
Worst Pelosi Photo Ever
Did the photographer intentionally bring the scratched up lens to the weekly press conference or did Nancy Pelosi spontaneously develop shingles on her cheek? I can't make a photo come out that bad if I took it with my cell phone camera while hopping on a pogo stick.
Getting back to the "insightful analysis", let's start at the top:
Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- House Democrats find themselves at a dreaded fiscal-policy Rubicon, and they have their political allies in the U.S. Senate to thank for it.
Wrapping up what has become easily the most disastrous legislative year for a majority power in memory, Speaker Nancy Pelosi will do her party significant electoral harm whether she crosses the river or not. Republicans are quietly celebrating and are increasingly optimistic about next year's elections.
Seriously! "Disastrous"? Dissapointing at worst. And what river is it exacly that Nancy Pelosi is supposed to cross? This Kevin Hassett person never clarifies that metaphor leaving us to wonder. He goes on and on blaming the Democratic Party for Republican filibusters in the Senate. He thinks that Republican obstruction on amending the AMT will help Republicans.
He goes on to blame the Democratic majority in the House for not being able to get Chimpy McStupid to bring the troops home. Skipping to the tail end:
Only about 20 percent of those surveyed last month by the Gallup Organization approved of the way Congress is handling its job. In an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, just 39 percent said their own representative in Congress deserved to be re- elected.
When Democrats took control of Congress, they could have chosen to work with the president and seek bipartisan solutions to problems. Bush invited such an approach with his appointment of the immensely popular Hank Paulson as Treasury secretary. Paulson spent an enormous amount of time pushing the overhaul of Social Security and other entitlement programs, to no avail.
Americans clearly yearn for an end to divisive politics. Incumbents in the House and Senate may soon wish they had responded to voters' desires a little sooner.
Funny how people yearn for an end to divisive politics when the Republicans are in the minority, funny that.
Let me reiterate, John McCain is listening to this guy. No wonder McCain is losing to a Morman, a serial adulterer and a flat earther.
