When you are so caught up within the ideal that 'your' party is so right, that you'll start making up wild conspiracy theories just to defend the indefensible, you really should examine your life.
Jon Swift speaks about a few conservative bloggers that should take a serious look at themselves and their ability to function as humans right about now.
( if you don't feel like clicking the link, there's quotes below the fold )
Nevermind that this woman's story has be verified by her father and a Republican congressman.
Nevermind that she can't sue the men that did this to her.
Nevermind that the State Department has gotten involved.
A few guys that blog with The Jawa Report ( occassionally adding to Michelle Malkin's blogs ) and Flopping Aces have decided to try and prove that this 'rape' and 'kidnapping' of Jamie Leigh never happened.
How can they do this, you may be asking. Well, Jon Swift thinks he knows how:
Although Shackleford, Curt, and Ace don't know anything about the case other than what they have seen on the Internet, they apparently do read mystery stories.
Just wait, it gets better:
Anyone who has read detective novels knows that when all the evidence seems to be pointing one way, you can be sure that what the evidence is telling you is the exact opposite of the truth. Usually, the detective reveals this twist at the end, but Shackleford, Curt and Ace decided to skip right to the last chapter instead of waiting to see what other evidence comes out before drawing any conclusions. Ace, quoting his doppelganger the Church Lady, says Jones' story is "too convenient." Curt, who supports actor Fred Thompson for President, says it sounds "too movie like." Shackleford, no doubt wrinkling his brow and rubbing his beard thoughtfully as the wheels spin in his brain, if he has one (a beard, that is), writes, "It's perfect. Too perfect."
As it turns out, if you are raped, kidnapped, and threatened, then you are helping the terrorists.
Indeed, if the terrorists wanted to undermine the war effort and destroy Western Civilization as we know it, this would be the perfect way to do it. Find an intelligent, attractive young woman to claim she was gang raped by contractors who work at the Vice President's company, and then get a Republican congressman and the State Department to back up part of her story. It's brilliantly evil and almost foolproof! There was just one thing these clever terrorists didn't count on: bloggers like Shackleford, Curt and Ace who would see right through their fiendish plan.
Though Swift is attempting to take a satrical stance at this whole issue, I can't get over the fact that some people are willing to let a woman suffer through this, and claim that what they are doing is 'supporting the Iraq effort'. It's simply sickening.
It appears that Chris Jones @ REDSTATE is quite fine with 'contractors' raping, killing, destroying innocent people's lives until it involves another 'contractor':
I have been a strident defender of allowing contractors to be immune from prosecution in Iraq. I don't really lose any sleep over Blackwater having to shoot one or more people for whatever reason.
Immunity for "contractor on Iraqi" crime is one thing, but I never considered that immunity would extend to "contractor on contractor" crimes. Or more specifically "American on American" crimes. Shooting an Iraqi in a war zone is one thing, but American contractors gang-raping a 20-year old American woman is f*cking outrageous.
The Jawa Report takes issue with this particular case, because it is:
....difficult to believe. In fact more difficult to believe than the Duke case.
Where as the Duke rape case was falling apart just shortly after the three innocent men were arrested, this case has been simmering for nearly 2 years, has been coroborated by a Congressman, Jamie Leigh Jone's father, the State Department, and several doctors.
TJR goes on to insist that this story is nothing more than ratings fodder for ABC, a possible career booster for the laywer representing Ms. Jones, and a great story for anyone that wants to see Halliburton/KBR in a negative light.
The Flopping Aces Blog tries, quite poorly, to try and distance themselves from their own ignorance. But, they still go on to say this about the missing medical evidence:
I'm sorry, I don't buy that at all. Why in the world would the Army hand over criminal evidence to the company involved in the crime?
Doesn't make sense.
I simply cannot fathom why people would want to be like this.
Far too many of these guys are trying to equate this story with the Duke case, simply because they don't want to see their precious Halliburton tarnished. These people are so caught up in their own awe of the Republican war-machine that they would be willing to let a woman be raped and then do anything to question her credibility in order to validate their own lack of moral fortitude that they so often claim to have.
There is word that Ms. Jones has optioned her story to be made into a film. I'm sure, should this ever happen, that people like O'Reilly and Hannity would do anything within their power to make people believe that this film would 'put the troops in harms way'.
They are more than willing to ignore a case of an American woman being harmed by her employer. I supposed they are just waiting to see if they can have a chance to blame Hollywood and everyone else who views this story as legit at the same time.
