Fed up with Bali? Me too. How can we get "regular folks" to "get" Climate Change?
This idea sprang from plf515's most excellent diary this morning, "What have you got to learn? (or teach) 49 with question)"

THAT'S something I'd like to learn ... how to get people to understand the urgency of CC, and make changes in their lifestyle - or at least, to acknowledge there are things we CAN do. Some thoughts below the fold ...
We can do more in the schools.
High school first - these kids will be voters soonest. But of course, to begin as early as possible, with the littlest grades.
How about a Climate Day or a group of presenters who are authorized to show and discuss those scary Incredible Shrinking Maps (TM) of diminishing land-masses, NYC and Miami disappearing, etc., in the schools, or another public venue? Kids like disaster flicks - well, this is real.
How bout some projects? -
Climate Fair, separate from the Science Fair
Required essay: What does Climate Change mean to me?
My Climate Diary - a journal of ideas and thoughts
My Five Weather "Friends" - deciding 5 things I will be personally responsible to do
Climate Camp - Go to summer camp while there's still summer!
Can we show those scary Incredible Shrinking Maps (TM) at the movies, with that dancing hot dog? I mean, if you're gonna clean up and not toss your popcorn container on the floor, might as well show 3 things you can do to REALLY clean up our larger home.
How bout show those maps in doctor's offices, while people sit and wait for their appointments (with the inevitable teevee blairing CNN or lord forbid Fox News)?
On another tack, Drivers' Licenses - let's make some kind of Climate Education mandatory before someone gets a driver's license ... like passing the eye exam.
Where are the captive audiences where we can introduce this issue on a wider scale, and how can we get permission to do so?
I don't want to call it "consciousness-raising for dummies," but I guess I just did - sorry. You know what I'm asking.
Ideas? Thoughts?
