Dodd showed it.
Today, Chris Dodd showed what actual leadership is, what it looks like, what it sounds like.
He stood against Republicans and Democrats alike, standing in the way of opposite party members and long-time colleagues, standing for what he knew was right and what he knew he had to do.
He stopped his Presidential campaign, something he doubtless takes extremely seriously, canceled events, and stood up for those of us in the netroots and everyone else in the country who has had enough of Bush and his administration running roughshod over our country's laws.
Congratulations, Senator Dodd. You showed us a glimpse of what we've been craving for a long, long time.
Which brings me to Senators Biden, Clinton and Obama.
Where the hell were you?
For all of the talk about leadership and vetting and politics of hope and all that happy rhetoric, you all decided your own personal campaigns were more important than standing up for our rights, for standing tall in the face of opposition.
You chose yourselves over us.
You decided that your campaigns were far more important than anything else. Sure, there may have been brief statements of support, urging other Senators to support Chris Dodd, but frankly, that was insulting not only to Chris Dodd, but to all of your supporters and the country in general.
You all talk about leadership, experience. You talk about being the best for the Democratic nomination for President.
Frankly, all you've shown me is how selfish you can be.
I used to support Dodd before his Iowa students nonsense and before he once again got cozy with Imus. I'm still staying neutral, supporting whoever wins the primary.
But today, Dodd showed everyone what real leadership looked like.
You all showed us more of what the Democratic Congress has been showing us for nearly a year:
Lip service.
Strong words, no action.
All of you should be ashamed.
Thank you, Chris Dodd, for being a leader when we clearly needed one.
