We've seen the talk about Edwards scaring the establishment.
And I'm sure it's accurate in its own way. Edwards is speaking of things that go against everything the establishment stands for, and I'm sure that's terrifying to them.
We've heard about Obama breaking the standard bearers, scattering them to the winds.
I'll bet that's accurate, too. Obama seems to be a breath of fresh air in a stagnant Senate, seeking the elusive middle ground and actually making headway towards finding it.
We've read about Clinton being the battle-scarred and vetted warrior we need.
I'm sure it's accurate in its own way as well. After all, she was the First Lady of a Presidency that was rife with scandal (manufactured and otherwise) and had to face down the snarling and screaming Republicans and their rabid base.
But guess what?
Chris Dodd scares the SHIT out of the Beltway and Establishment.
And God love him for it.
DISCLOSURE: Eh, really nothing here. I supported Dodd's Presidency initially, then I ditched him after he smacked Obama for his Iowa Students commentary as well as Dodd's support of Imus and his return to radio. Frankly, I don't like any of that, but I give credit where credit is due. I currently have no favored candidate for President and have vowed to support whomever wins the Primary.
As per the remarkable Glenn Greenwald, Chris Dodd is an active and terrifying threat to their power and their way of life.
Imagine: a person who not only believes the fancy rhetoric and beautiful speeches they give, but also doesn't hesitate to stand and fight for those beliefs.
As was said, terrifying.
What besides a dedicated and resolved Democrat could so horrify the Establishment Democrats aside from someone who bucks the widely-held opinions of the Beltway and sides with the "fringe" -- you know, that small, insignificant majority-of-the-fucking-country.
As Greenwald opines, Reid and his fellow cowards and greedy shitjobs cannot possibly understand the basis for Dodd's stand, the foundation for his fight:
He believes in it.
Unlike Obama and Clinton, Dodd canceled events and removed himself from the campaign trail in order to make his voice heard, to be able to fight for what he utterly believed in, beyond all else.
He didn't hesitate, like his fellow Presidential candidates. He didn't falter, like the Democrats have done so often since taking "power" (in this case, "power" refers to "a simple majority dominated by cowards, greedy assholes and ignorant fuckbags").
Dodd recognized our outrage.
He heard our pleas.
He responded when no one else would.
He led the charge, stood tall and braved the onslaught of of ignorant Republicans and ignorant Democrats alike, making good on his promises.
And that, beyond all else, is incomprehensible to the majority of the Democrats.
That someone could not only believe in something, but actually defend and fight for it, is almost unheard of in their world.
Elections are important; justice is not.
Gaining seats is the only thing that matters; standing for what's right is a waste of time.
So as cowardly Democrats such as Reid and his little, anonymous cronies speak of Dodd "grandstanding" and "posturing," let us not forget who was with us when it came time to fight.
Who stood with us, who stood tall and faced down the opposition and friendlies alike?
It wasn't Edwards.
It wasn't Obama.
It wasn't Clinton.
It wasn't Richardson, Biden, Gravel or Kucinich.
It was Chris Dodd.
And now he's being vilified for it.
Support him or not, like him or not.
Don't forget that it was Chris-Fucking-Dodd who said "That's far enough; NO further."
It was Chris Dodd who was willing to throw aside his reputation and friendships with the Beltway and Establishment Dems to fight for us and our cause.
It was Chris Dodd, alone amongst all of the Presidential candidates, who stood tall.
For us.
Remember that.
