The first idea here is to organize the Diaries in order to create election teams, each dedicated to helping a specific congressional candidate win. For example, clicking the Diaries link would take you to the generic Diaries page, as it does now, but on the right side, perhaps right under the "Blue Majority" link, there would be a column of links to a specific Diary page for each of the Democrat House and Senate candidates. That way, those of us interested in helping a specific candidate could go directly to those pages to brainstorm and share information.
Waste is a bugaboo in business and government that makes getting things done much harder and more expensive. On Daily Kos the great waste is that unless a Diary is immediately appreciated or rescued soon after it’s published, it will likely remain ignored for the rest of eternity. My guess is that many useful and important Diaries are wasted that way simply because they have to compete with too many other Diaries for the attention of readers whose focus and attention is extremely varied.
The way to end this waste of Diarists’ time and effort is to re-structure DK so that in addition to having Diaries appear on the Recent and Recommended lists, they also appear in special sections. I know that tagging accomplishes this somewhat, but I wonder how many of us routinely key in on our interests through the search feature. Under the "Recent Diaries" list, there should be a listing of specific topics like Attacking Republicans, Fundraising, Framing the Message, Web Actions, Campaign Ideas and Strategies, etc.
I am especially interested in helping Democrats win a filibuster-proof Senate majority, but I’m reluctant to create ideas about this for DK because the likelyhood of them getting read and appreciated is rather slim. I hope DK is re-structured in this way by the time the primary season ends.
