Ok, can I really call it "in the trenches" if I'm making phone calls from my den in Los Angeles while eating a Manwich? No? So I couldn't join Dean's "Southwest Express" to Arizona - I still got the names of 50 Arizona Dem voters and called them this weekend to voter id (or, at this late stage, probably more like GOTV) for Dean. Hey, if the candidate can't do it, I'll pick up the slack, eh?
Problem is, no one is answering their phones. And those that do already voted. Doesn't make me feel a warm and toasty inside if I can't ID one Dean voter. Closest I came was a women in Phoenix who said she's voting for Kerry but felt the need to add that "Dean's a really good guy" and she had a really hard time choosing a candidate this time around. Mmmmmokay.
Today, I switched states. Turns out Dean's campaign wants to get young voters (18-24) out to vote in Delaware cuz he's polling so well among them. Again, 30 calls made and narry a phone answered, until 9:21pm (6:21 here in LA), when intials BRS answered her phone, pretending not to be herself, then let loose with "I don't want phone calls at home at this hour" after I identified myself as a caller from the Dean campaign.
OK, calls over for tonight I guess. 9:21 really isn't that late, is it? Not getting anywhere anyway, a little demoralized. I even left work early (this never happens!), not much to show for it.
