Because we've all been so tense lately battling each other in candidate wars, I thought it would be a refreshing breather to reflect upon the Best Idiots of 2007. I'd like to compile a list of maybe 100 such idiots, then post it on my blog as a year-end recap entry.
I'll start.
My first Idiot of 2007 has to be Ann Coulter. Below are a few reasons why.
"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I'm - so, kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards, so I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions."
"I don't know why all gays aren't Republican. I think we have the pro-gay positions, which is anti-crime and for tax cuts. Gays make a lot of money and they're victims of crime. No, they are! They should be with us."
"If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."
"Mike Huckabee is the Republican Jimmy Carter."
Since she's so clearly trying to stir pots with her ignorance, it seems unfair to give her the title of Idiot of the Year. Here are some other top contenders.
"All of us in America want there to be fairness when it comes to justice." -George W. Bush, Sept. 20, 2007
"The same folks that are bombing innocent people in Iraq were the ones who attacked us in America on September the 11th." -George W. Bush, July 12, 2007
"I'm honored to be here with the eternal general of the United States, mi amigo Alberto Gonzales." -George W. Bush, May 4, 2007
"A lot of parents say, "Listen, we don't want to normalize homosexuality in a public way in an academic setting, high school, among minors. We don't think that reflects how we feel about it." Well, for a number of reasons. One: social. It's much more difficult to be a homosexual than a heterosexual in America. Two: religious. There are people who believe that that kind of a lifestyle...
"I don't want any kid to be bullied. I wrote Kids are Americans Too for gay kids who are getting bullied. They should read the book, know their rights. I don't want anything like that to happen." -Bill O'Reilly, November 7, 2007
"I know that it is unusual for someone who is not a Republican to endorse a Republican candidate for President," Lieberman said. "And if this were an ordinary time and an ordinary election, I probably would not be here today. But this is no ordinary time -- and this is no ordinary election -- and John McCain is no ordinary candidate." -Joe Lieberman
Now it's your turn!
Edit: I'd like to be able to attribute one specific idiotic quote to each idiot, so if you'd like to recommend the one you think is best, I'd appreciate it.
