OK, so I don't do many call to action diaries ... but this is a call to action diary. And yes, I know that there is already an excellent diary on the speech itself: Tim Ryan owns the Iraq debate-- TRANSCRIPT & VIDEO (highly and heartily recommended ... go there to talk about the speech!!!) ... this is about something different.
I want to see the YouTube clip of my man Tim Ryan (D-OH17) climb up the charts on Youtube. I want to see it break out of the "most viewed" ghetto of most blog-popular YouTube clips, and break out into the most favorites honors pages, the highest rated honors pages, and most especially the most commented honors pages.
And, yeah, sure, spread the clip around the blogosphere, but as part of a campaign to Blogswarm Youtube. If you get what I'm saying, here's the clip: Rep Tim Ryan Iraq Debate (YouTube) ... and if you get what I'm saying, then, yes, click through even if you have already watched the clip in skymutt's most excellent diary.
Why Blogswarm Youtube with this clip? That's after the fold.
First, a little primer. Here is some useful insight from JackDanyells on how an experienced YouTube user looks for new clips to watch: The YouTube Guided Tour (Youtube).
Now, if you think about it, that means that he mostly looks at the clips that the YouTube community is talking about, not the "most viewed" which can easily be embedded clips that people are viewing and discussing in the context of a blog on the blogosphere.
So, if we want to blogswarm YouTube, we have to register for a YouTube account, go to the clip on YouTube itself, and drop comments, rated up, and add clips to our favorites page at YouTube. We are, indeed, all familiar with this type of process in the Blogosphere.
A couple of things to watch out for. First, as you can see if you look at the comment page there, I did not post a well composed paragraph talking about how Tim Ryan is a new breed of democrat who came to Congress as part of the Minority and understands in his gut that you have to take the fight to the Republicans. Instead, I just expressed my gut reaction to the clip.
Second, there is no linky goodness in my comment. Linky goodness is a bad idea in a Youtube comment, because it can result in the comment being spamfiltered. "Google for ..." is a lot safer than a link.
Third, if trolls happen along, that also boosts the comment count. But don't call them trolls in responses to them, call them "haters" ... the YouTube community will get what you mean. And remember, its not the quality of the commentary discussion, its the quantity ... the point is to get the clip itself watched by as many people as possible.
OK. That's it. If, after watching the clip, you think you want to give it a higher profile in the YouTube community, take those actions listed above, and if you are really up for it, hit another blog or two to recruit more people for the blogswarm. I've already done that in a comment in the Buckeye State Blog, where I originally saw the clip, and in an Action front page entry at the JRE'08 supporters blog.
Of course, if you aren't into it, don't be a hater ... just move along and do whatever else you think is more important.
Peace, Out. 8-)#
