You just gotta love the White House's answer to every tough question, smile but don't answer. Today, during a
photo op with CA Senator Diane Feinstein, SCOTUS nominee Larry Roberts needed Feinstein's help to avoid answering a sticky question about his ties to the Federalist Society.
WASHINGTON - Supreme Court nominee John Roberts declined Monday to explain why he was listed in a Federalist Society leadership directory when the White House says he doesn't recall being a member of the conservative legal organization.
Roberts, nominated by President Bush last week to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, was asked by a reporter about the discrepancy during a morning get-acquainted meeting with Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
He smiled but didn't reply.
"I don't think he wants to take any questions," Feinstein interjected during the session with photographers and reporters that was part of the meeting in her office with the Supreme Court nominee.
"No, no, no thanks," Roberts added.
What is it about Republicans that they require the help of their elders? First W needed his mom's help to try and sell his Social Security and drug plans, and now Roberts needs Feinstein to wave off the press. I remember how badly overhandled Clarance Thomas was, just as Dan Quayle was when he first ran for Vice President. Senator, please let the judge handle his own questions.
