Like a number of Kossack I was less than wrapped to find out that our supposed candidate in IA 2 - Dave Loebsack had come up short on his filing signatures in 2 out of 8 counties.
And only a few signatures short too.
Below the fold for the obvious from the title good news....
Then lo and behold a number of references to the ability of the Iowa Democrats to nominate a candidate via a District Convention bobbed up:
http://www.cqpolitics.com/...
http://www.crgazette.com/...
As well as the above two links I read similar comments on Politics 1 and Swing State Project and the question was posed by Davod Kowalski over at My DD.
So I emailled the Loebsack Campaign hoping that they wouldn't regard an Australian email address as spam.
Less than 25 minutes later I received the following email from Loebsack's Campaign Manager.
"Yes, Dave will be placed on the ballot via the District Convention.
This is a (temporary) flesh wound to the campaign, but not at all fatal. We have experienced a real activation of the base as a result of this - to the point that we wonder if this seat has been held by Leach for so long because there has never been a primary by the dems running against him to activate the base this early. We plan to take full advantage of the grassroots uprising!!!
Thanks
Melanie Friedman, Campaign Manager
Loebsack for Congress"
Whilst I was tempted to email back and chide her for the poor use of a Monty Python reference; (In the Holy Grail the flesh wound involved the Black Knight losing both arms and legs) I of course didn't and so here it is.
**We can still nominate a candidate in the Iowa 2nd Congressional District!!!!**
So that's five districts without Dem challengers NOT six.
I await the proud updating of the 50 State Site: http://www.barrywelsh.org/...
BTW Do Barry a favour and vote for him over at the Progressive Patriots page: http://www.progressivepatriotsfund.com/...
Barry deserves any help he can get, he is responsible for the invaluable 50 State site and I believe he is a genuinely decent man.
