I just found
This Diary at SoapBlox/Chicago, stating that House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert was subpoenaed today.
Here's what it said:
Breaking - Hastert Subpoenaed
Just heard it announced at the end of the session of the House meeting on C-SPAN. Watch for more news.
(Hat Tip to Kankakee Voice)
In reality, I think it was Bonnie Walsh, a member of his staff, who was subpoenaed. See below for further explanation.
Further Down in the diary was this comment, from
scifuentes, with reference to the
House Website:
5:19 P.M. -
The House received a communication from Bonnie Walsh, Office of the Honorable J. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the House. Pursuant to Rule VIII of the Rules of the House of Representatives, Ms. Walsh notified the House that she had been served with a criminal subpoena for testimony issued by the Circuit Court for the 16th Judicial Circuit, DeKalb County, Illinois and that after consultation with the Office of General Counsel, she had determined that compliance with the subpoena was consistent with the precedents and privileges of the House. (Emphasis mine)
The subpoena was from the 16th District Circuit Court in DeKalb County, IL, so I doubt if it is related to Abramoff, but you never know. After all, Mr. Fitzgerald is the US Attorney in Chicago. Either way, It's more bad news for Hastert.
At any rate, I'll update this diary if I hear more.
