I can only scan so many news services and blogs per morning. I would guess it to be about 15 to 20, and then I scan again around 2 in the afternoon which is typically when the "breaking news" cycle begins. I can honestly say I haven't seen a line or word written on anti-war protester and Iraq invasion soldier mom, Cyndi Sheehan in recent weeks until yesterday. Ms. Sheehan launched a 4th of July fast which
she has vowed will last 2 months. How did this slip by us?
Maybe you knew already. Why didn't ya say something? I think this is important. I had to learn about it on the net-rag, Drudge Report which only posted the story as a mockery of the slain soldier's mother. After reading the story from that link I remembered that it was
Michael Moore and his website that was faithfully keeping the Sheehan cause alive. It was Moore who brought us Cyndi's daily updates from Camp Casey, the make-shift protest camp outside George Weapons of Mass Destruction Bush's comfy Texas summer home. From there you'll recall, Bush ducked out of news coverage range while he ignored the anger caused by our soldiers falling for a nothing cause, and also the place from which he overslept through the Hurricane Katrina alarm, with visions of My Pet Goats dancing in his head.
Somewhere along the line I stopped hearing about Ms. Sheehan's steady, consistant, and dedicated anti-war activities. But she's never stopped working. She recently joined the Troops Home Fast effort. She began not taking nourishment on the eve of the birthday of our country.
Ms. Sheehan will be fasting until the last day of Camp Casey, which is August 2nd. And look at the names who became involved in this practically non-covered event:
Ed Asner
Willie Nelson
Graham Nash
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney
Michel Berg, father of murdered Iraq invasion soldier Nicholas
Reverend Al Sharpton
Marianne Williamson (for you Course in Miracles fans)
Talk Host, Laura Flanders
Believe me ... the list goes on!
No doubt, Drudge and others will be keeping track of this protein-less protest. They will be watching for the first person who takes the first bite before the deadline, and to make merry mockery of folks who so believe in their cause that they're willing to put their health, and maybe even their life on the line.
The least we can do is cover it, pray for them, and keep them in our hearts and minds. After all, spearheader Cyndi Sheehan was the first person with the courage and spine to stand up to the group which has committed the worst war crimes ever to be committed by an American government administration.
Good Luck and God bless you, Cyndi. I'm watching.
