Eric sure knows how to get people to vote Democrat
"All of this militates against people making the same mistake they made four years ago, so perhaps I can get excited about something else.... Except for those Deaniacs. The media are filled with quotes from Dean bloggers saying some variation of, "How wonderful. A candidate who makes me feel morally superior to everyone else but who will actually accomplish nothing but the destruction of the very things about which to care." How many are like this? That's what I don't know.
I also don't know if these people would have bothered to vote anyway. Perhaps it's up to Dean himself to rescue these folks from their own narcissism and make good on his promise to build a movement that will force the Democrats to remain loyal to their "Democratic" wing. I dunno about that either
"
Eric has finally gone off the deep end. It of course isnt the first time but this time he has finally lost it. Apparently Eric is of the bent who believe that if you arent a republican you Owe Eric, Kerry and the democratic party apparatchiks your unquestioning loyalty.
Longtime democrats have heard this for years. They've heard it every time the party machinery churned out another republican lite candidate. Theyve heard it every time the party openly attacked its own base. They heard it when the party openly dissed the NAACP, and when the party voted to sell out the working class with Nafta, Gat and todays neo-supplyside washington economic ideology. Of course these same people dont understand why the party keeps losing election after election. Why the party that was once the home of a majority of americans has been reduced to a nearly irrelevant fringe. But now they've taken it one step further.
According to Eric Alterman, the Kerryites, and the party insiders you are a traitor if you dont vote kerry. It of course doesnt matter that the party has sold your particular idealogy out en masse. Or that in your perfect world you would be able to vote Green or Libertarian for president and have a chance at winning. It doesnt matter to them that they represent you marginally less than the Neocons controlling the GOP. What matters to the party is that they keep their jobs, that you send them your checks, and that their corporate masters recieve their due.
Yes Greens, Democrats, Naderites and even honest libertarians and conservatives should vote for the democratic nominee even if he is Kerry if only to stop possibly the worst president pResident in american history. But after the election, win or lose, there must for the sake of America be a housecleaning.
Should Kerry win we have a long hard battle taking back congress and trying to take back our party.
Should Kerry lose it is time for a purge in the democratic party of the people who led us to this horrific point in history. And the kind of neo-stalinist authoritarianism preached by the likes of Alterman have to be the first to go. And Eric? Phrases like "THOSE people" and "These people" went out in the late sixties.
