Currently Republicans control the Pennsylvania 28-22 after huge upset by the Democrats in the May 16 Special Election in District 19. With 25 seats up in 2006 here is the breakdown. 15 R held and 10 D held seats are up. Only 3 Ds have a challenger the other 7 are uncontested. Only one R gets a free pass because Ds have a challenger in 14 races. Nine R incumenbents have a D challenger. There are three open seats all with Ds running. There are also two newly open seats with D challengers where the R incumbent was defeated by another R in the Primary.
Just winning the 3 open seats and holding the D seats ties the State Senate 25-25. That leaves the other two opens and the 9 challenged incumbents with 11 shots at a majority.
Great job Pennsylvania Dems.
