Iraqi's are better off without Saddam, but they are also better off with the ending of U.N. sanctions.
This is most noticeable in improved water treatment systems, which are above pre-war levels in terms of production. Equipment used to treat water was banned during the sanctions, because of its multi-use capability.
Few in the west will talk about the sanctions, because we are responsible for their failure and the suffering they imposed on the average Iraqi. Sanction's didn't hurt Saddam one bit, and yet we rammed a U.N. resolution through to "punish" him.
We still continue with this form of slow-torture in Cuba.
