This article should sound a huge alarm for all Democrats. The scariest graf, IMO:
Afterward, 400 supporters marched out of the Orange County Convention Center and onto buses to knock on 20,000 doors, recruit volunteers and register Republicans. Others stayed behind to work 300 cell phones, and reached 80,000 people whose voting history suggests they lean to the GOP, the campaign reported.
Such a blitz is more typical of a campaign's final fall push, but Bush's inner circle has calculated that the election will be a game of inches in crucial states and that old-time, shoe-leather politicking could be decisive.
This is what we are up against. BC04 and the RNC are ready.
Second scariest graf:
Kerry campaign officials acknowledged that they have only a fledgling structure in Florida, but said they plan to open an office and put staff in the state soon. They said that, with the help of their labor allies, the campaign will build a grass-roots organization that will peak on Election Day.
Clearly, the Kerry folks (for understandable reasons) and the DNC (which is dangerously ill-prepared for the organizational aspect of the general election) are not ready.
